Make or Do?
Learn the difference between "make" and "do" and common collocations. An A2 vocabulary lesson.
In English, we often use the verbs make and do, but they are not the same. Choosing the right one is a common challenge.
We generally use make for creating or producing something: make a cake, make a decision, make a mistake, make noise, make friends.
We generally use do for activities, jobs and tasks: do homework, do the shopping, do your best, do exercise, do the washing.
These combinations are called collocations – words that naturally go together. The best way to learn them is to notice and practise them in real phrases.
