The First Day at a New School
Read about Layla's nervous first day at a new school. An A2 reading story with key words and comprehension questions.
When Layla started at her new school, she felt very nervous. Her family had moved to a new city, and she did not know anyone. On the first morning, she woke up early and put on her new uniform. She was quiet during breakfast because she was worried.
When she arrived, a teacher took her to her classroom. “Everyone, this is Layla,” the teacher said. All the students looked at her, and Layla felt her face go red. But then a girl called Mona smiled and said, “Come and sit next to me.” Layla felt a little better.
During the break, Mona introduced Layla to her friends. They were all very friendly, and they asked her many questions about her old city. By the end of the day, Layla had three new friends. On the way home, she was happy. Starting a new school was not so scary after all. Sometimes the things we worry about become our best memories.
