Learning to Cook
Read how someone learned to cook step by step. An A2 reading story with key words and comprehension questions.
Last year, I could not cook at all. When my parents were out, I only ate bread or fruit because I did not know how to make anything. I felt embarrassed because all my friends could cook simple meals. So I decided to learn.
First, I watched cooking videos on the internet. Then I asked my mother to teach me. She was very patient. We started with easy dishes, like rice, eggs and vegetable soup. At the beginning, I made many mistakes. Once, I burned the rice, and the kitchen filled with smoke!
But I did not give up. I practised every weekend, and slowly I got better. Now, I can cook many dishes, and I even made dinner for my whole family last Sunday. Everyone said the food was delicious. Learning to cook was not easy, but it was worth it. Now I enjoy cooking, and it makes me feel proud.
