A Second Chance
Read the story of a man who followed his dream later in life. A B1 reading story with key words and comprehension questions.
Daniel had always dreamed of becoming a chef, but life had taken him in a different direction. After leaving school, he took a job in an office to earn money. The work was steady and safe, but he was not happy. Year after year, he sat at the same desk, dreaming of kitchens, recipes and the smell of fresh bread. He told himself that one day he would follow his passion, but that day never seemed to come.
Then, at the age of forty, Daniel lost his office job when the company closed. At first, he was frightened. He had a family to support and no idea what to do next. But after a few difficult weeks, he began to see the situation differently. Perhaps this was the second chance he had been waiting for.
With the support of his wife, Daniel used his small savings to attend a cooking course. It was hard work, and he was much older than the other students, but he had never felt more alive. Two years later, he opened a small restaurant in his town. It was not easy, and there were many challenges, but the restaurant slowly became popular. Daniel often says that losing his job was the best thing that ever happened to him. Sometimes, he explains, life closes one door only to open a better one.
