City Life or Country Life?
Read a balanced comparison of city and country living. A B1 reading text with key words and comprehension questions.
Where is the best place to live: a busy city or the peaceful countryside? This is a question that people have debated for generations, and there is no single right answer. Both offer very different lifestyles, and the best choice depends on what a person values most.
Cities are full of energy and opportunity. They usually offer more jobs, better public transport, and easy access to hospitals, universities and entertainment. There is always something to do, and people from many different cultures live side by side. However, city life also has downsides. It can be expensive, crowded and noisy. The air is often polluted, and the fast pace of life can be stressful. Many city dwellers say they feel they never have time to relax.
The countryside, on the other hand, offers space, fresh air and a slower, calmer way of life. Communities are often smaller and friendlier, and the natural surroundings can be beautiful. But rural areas may have fewer jobs and services, and getting to shops or hospitals can take a long time. For some, the quiet can even feel lonely or boring. In the end, both city and country life have their advantages and disadvantages. What feels like paradise to one person may feel like a prison to another.
