1. Structure of an opinion paragraph

3. Give reasons, not just feelings

An opinion is stronger when you explain why. Do not just repeat that you like something — give a reason and an example.

  • Weak: I think reading is good. It is really good.
  • Strong: I think reading is valuable because it builds vocabulary. For example, I learned hundreds of new words this year.
Acknowledge the other side (optional, advanced)A mature opinion paragraph can mention the opposite view before returning to your own: “Some people think online study is lonely. However, I believe the flexibility is worth it.” This shows balanced thinking.
Tutor tip for Arabic speakersState your opinion clearly and early — English readers expect your position in the first sentence, not at the end. Then support it with reasons and examples, not just strong feelings or repetition. A reliable formula: “I think ___ because ___. For example, ___.” Use “First… Second…” to keep two reasons clearly separate.
