Today is a special day. It is my birthday and I am twelve years old. In the morning, my mother says, “Happy birthday!” and she gives me a big hug.

In the afternoon, my friends come to my house. We have a party in the garden. There are balloons and music. My best friend gives me a present. It is a new book about space. I am very happy because I love books.

Then my mother brings a big cake. It is chocolate, my favourite! There are twelve candles on the cake. Everybody sings a song and I blow out the candles. I make a wish, but I cannot tell you. It is a secret! It is the best birthday.

Key words
  • present – a thing you give to someone on a special day (a gift)
